I’ve always loved photography — but I also love 3D printing.
For a long time, those two worlds felt separate… until I discovered filament painting.
After getting frustrated with guessing transmission distances and reprinting over and over, I decided to build my own solution.
LumaLayer is a standalone Windows tool I created to turn images into high-quality filament paintings and lithophanes. It simulates how light actually passes through plastic, so what you see on screen closely matches what you get off the printer.
Whether you’re going for photo-realism, graphic art, or AI-stylized prints, LumaLayer handles the math so you can focus on creating.
The software is available in both Free and Pro versions.
The Free version is fully usable, and the Pro version helps support ongoing development of this passion project.
