For years I've wanted a motor dyno that could accurately and repeatably test RC motors, ESCs, batteries, and complete power systems—but nothing on the market does exactly what I need. So I decided to build my own.

In this update, I show the newest prototype featuring custom 3D-printed components, skateboard bearings, a precision load cell, and a shunt for accurate electrical measurements. The goal is simple: create a highly repeatable motor dyno built mostly from off-the-shelf components that anyone could potentially build or reproduce.

Eventually these printed parts will become CNC-machined aluminum, but prototyping with 3D printing lets me rapidly improve the design before committing to production.

This dyno will help optimize:

RC motors
ESC firmware
Battery performance
Efficiency
Torque
Power output
Repeatable testing

The better the data, the better the motors we can build.

What feature would YOU want to see in an RC motor dyno?
