I bought some incredibly cheap SD cards from AliExpress and decided to find out the truth… ARE THEY FAKE?!
In this video, I put these AliExpress SD cards through a series of tests to see how they actually perform compared with a genuine 512GB SanDisk SD card.
I'll test the cards using CrystalDiskMark to compare their read and write speeds, then I'll take the cards into the real world and test them with a GoPro HERO8 to see how they perform when actually recording video.
The big question is: Are these cheap AliExpress SD cards legitimate, or are they counterfeit/fake cards that aren't what they claim to be?

SD card speed matters when you're recording video because sustained write performance can affect whether a camera can reliably record. SanDisk notes that UHS and Video Speed Class ratings are designed around minimum sustained performance requirements for recording.
The genuine SanDisk card provides a useful benchmark for comparison, with SanDisk's current 512GB Ultra SD offering rated for up to 195MB/s sequential read performance under compatible conditions.
So… did I find a bargain, or did I buy fake SD cards?
