Today’s video is one I’ve been wanting to make for a LONG time…
I finally found a Scania V8 (DC16 16.4L) that came off an oil drilling rig where it was used to pump water, and it’s been sitting for years. I’ve been hunting one of these newer common rail V8 engines for a long time, and this one only has around 2200 hours on it.
So the question is…
will it actually start?
In this video, we unload the engine, strip off a bunch of the unnecessary oilfield equipment, prime the fuel system, and try to bring this thing back to life.
We did run into an issue with the actuator being locked up, but after freeing it up, this engine fires off and runs strong every time.
This is just the beginning…
The plan is to swap this Scania V8 into my 2006 Kenworth W900L and build it into something pretty wild. With help from Industrial Injection and a few other companies, we’re aiming for somewhere in the 1500–2000 horsepower range.
Next video, we’ll be pulling this engine out of the power unit and starting the teardown process.
This is going to be one of the craziest builds we’ve done.
