I just bought a 1998 Honda Acty Van... and immediately attempted an 800-mile drive home across the country.
This tiny Japanese kei van has a 660cc engine, 5-speed manual transmission, real-time 4WD, nearly 100,000 kilometers on the odometer, and absolutely no business crossing the Rocky Mountains.
After flying to Kansas to pick it up, I pointed it toward Colorado and hoped for the best. Along the way I dealt with rain, long highway stretches, mountain grades, an overnight camp inside the van, and a climb to 11,312 feet over Monarch Pass.
