One year ago, I arrived in Camden, South Carolina, knowing no one, with $50 in my pocket, my daughter, my faith, and a calling.
For 90 days, Food for the Soul was my home.
But Food for the Soul gave me much more than food and shelter. It gave me structure, meaningful connections, hope, and a safe place from which to begin rebuilding my life.
“Food for the soul” is anything that nourishes our inner being—the things that bring us peace, fulfillment, connection, purpose, and remind us what makes life worth living.
Perhaps that’s why, almost as soon as I arrived, I started planting. 🌱
I wanted what I experienced INSIDE Food for the Soul to become something people could see, feel, smell, and experience OUTSIDE too.
That became the Healing Garden.
Some plants grew.
Many died.
I planted again.
Today, flowers are blooming where there were once empty spaces, and my dream is to continue creating a place of peace, hope, beauty, and healing for Food for the Soul residents, staff, volunteers, caregivers, and our Camden community.
A flower. A fragrance. A butterfly or hummingbird. A quiet place to sit and breathe.
That is food for the soul. 💙
There is still so much to do, and I can’t build this garden alone.
If you’d like to help us grow the Healing Garden, please donate, volunteer, share this video, or support our Healing Garden Wish List.
One year ago, Camden was where I came looking for a new beginning.
Today, Camden is home.
Thank you, Food for the Soul.
Thank you, Camden.
Thank you to every person God placed in my path.
And above all, thank You, God.
Even after our hardest seasons, we can still bloom. 🌱🌸
