I am vegan, but I never stopped wearing leather, wool, and silk; here is why:

I wear second hand and vintage leather, wool, and silk, these materials are durable, long-lasting and already in the waste stream; I would also much rather use what I already have rather than buying new, which is the most sustainable option - always. By choosing preloved options the current industries handling animal products won’t be profiting from me using those materials.

While not all plantbased materials are derived from fossil fuels, lots are: polyester, pleather and faux fur come with quite the impact, so I prefer to wear good quality pieces that was made decades ago and that’ll last (don’t get me wrong, many animal derived materials come with a massive impact as well, which is why second hand and vintage are much better options).

I understand that, from an ethical perspective, wearing animal derived materials can be uncomfortable for some, which is completely valid. However, I also have a human skull in my living room, so I am not so easy to creep out lol

In the end, I see it as vital that you’re able to reflect and tailor your lifestyle so they make sense to you, and that goes for the eco movements as well 🌿
