It’s all your fault. I am now a certified Linux user. Arch by the way.
I’ve been doing a series where we try out Linux distros based on your recommendations. So you won’t be surprised to hear we ended up at CachyOS because yinz could not stop talking about it in the comments.
Despite the reputation that anything Arch-based is a no-go zone for anyone new to the Tux, or anyone who enjoys bathing regularly, CachyOS seems to get a pass simply because it’s just that dang good. It kinda has everything going for it, wide hardware support including Nvidia, optimizations on optimizations and no matter what game I threw at it it was unshakeable.
Their welcomer utility is crazy impressive. One click button to install all the gaming packages I needed, giving you Steam, Heroic Launcher and Lutris as well as their own custom version of Proton
But let’s talk about the elephant in the room, CachyOS is based on Arch by the way? Well didn’t they just have a huge malware incident with thousands of compromised apps? Yes and no, the infected packages were all orphaned projects that some nefarious users hijacked from the AUR, or Arch User Repository, a community-sourced library of applications made by Arch users, for Arch users and it’s entirely optional.
CachyOS is hands down one of the best flavors of Linux I’ve ever used.
