It also carried plenty of potential side effects due to its active ingredient, a prostaglandin….dangers like: hyperpigmentation, redness, irritation and something called “peri orbital fat loss” Aka hallow, sunken eyes. Sounds so nice, right?THEN on to the scene came all of the OTC versions of latisse. The versions most like latisse also have prostaglandin analogues (synthetic prostaglandins) and While they also promised longer, thicker, darker lashes some of them neglected to warn us about the awful truth- using them could annihilate the fat all around our eyes leaving us with hollowness that is terribly hard (if not impossible) to correct. They DO warn that … "Some users have reported eye redness and itchiness, dry eyes, watering of the eyes, sensitivity, styes, inflammation of eyelid and eye, temporary darkening of skin around the eye area, lash loss and/or visible enhancement of hair around or outside the eye area." (Rodan and fields)...What about fat loss???Some of them dismiss the side effects with snarky language (pulled right from Grande Lash website)… “You can't believe everything you see or hear on social media.There are no studies that substantiate peri orbital fat loss as a potential effect of GrandeLASH-MD. Online claims of this aren't unsupported by any real scientific evidence.”Sadly, that’s not true. Prostaglandin analogues carry the same potential risks as prescription prostaglandins. As a matter of fact the FDA issued a warning to OTC lash serum makers back in 2011 about the potential dangers of including prostaglandin analogues in their formulas due to the known FDA-studied side effects.
