Cheers, MitchFruit Bowl with double bevel dovetailsMitch Peacock • Designer Woodworker2022-10-28 | I use double bevel dovetails to make a hopper shaped fruit bowl. Make one yourself by cutting your boards with a true mitre angle of 35.3° tipped up by 30°, either by hand as I do, or on the table saw or compound mitre saw. Then bevel the top and bottom at opposite 45°. Make four identical sides, dovetail them, and drop in a square base beveled at 45°. If you can't face the dovetails, just flip all the boards and you'll find you can butt joint them!

Cheers, MitchSharpening TrialMitch Peacock • Designer Woodworker2022-03-16 | NEW SHARPENING TECHNIQUE Help Me Evaluate It I'm always looking for ways to help my viewers and students achieve sharp edges. A new technique was suggested to me last week (thanks Peter) which I think is worth getting some feedback on. Please have a go yourself, and then come back and tell me how you got on. I'm looking to know if you got sharper edges or not, and how east the process was, compared to your usual method (don't forget to tell me what that is too). I'll post an updated video with the results, once I have enough back to make a judgement. Thanks for your help.

Cheers, MitchMini Chainsaw vs Small Bow saw - Trying the HychikaMitch Peacock • Designer Woodworker2021-12-22 | Mini chainsaw on the Hychika online store: bit.ly/3qAeGIH (Where you will find it considerably cheaper than it was on Amazon when I bought it)
16" Bow saws available at any good DIY store
Test chainsaw was purchased from Amazon, and it's cost reimbursed by Hychika.
Test woods: mainly English Ash and Holly, with a small amount of Pear and Royal Purple Smokebush (cotinus coggygria). All within a month of felling, or while still growing, i.e. all green)
Main findings: Easily tackles cross cuts in wet timber (up to 6" tested) Full charge managed in excess of twenty cross cuts in 4" (average) green Ash Small chain oil tank capacity (two tanks used in these tests) I found it possible to operate the saw one-handed, reaching the safety trigger interlock with my thumb. This is convenient, but not particularly safe.
The way I used the saw in this video was based on my previous experience with chainsaws, and is in no way intended as a demonstration of good practice. Don't follow what I do, read and understand the usage and safety instructions that come with your power tools.Fitting Knife Hinges to a CabinetMitch Peacock • Designer Woodworker2021-12-17 | In my mind, knife hinges top butt hinges by a mile in cabinet construction.
