Hydrogen sulphide is a normal microbial by-product in the gut, but in excess it becomes incredibly disruptive.
One big piece I see all the time is the inhibition of butyrate function on the large bowl. Butyrate is a fuel source for colonocytes and helps to maintain the gut barrier (among many other things). When hydrogen sulphide levels rise, butyrate metabolism can be blocked even if butyrate-producing bacteria are present.
This creates a situation where the gut lining is under-fuelled, the gut lining is damaged, and inflammation increases. Clinically, this pattern is often associated with persistent bloating, sulphur-smelling gas, food intolerance, and difficulty tolerating fibres or butyrate-supportive interventions.
