This appears to be a similar situation to what is happening at the moment at Fukushima reactor #1. Hydrogen is building up. Tepco plans to inject nitrogen into it to ease the hydrogen steam pressure buildup.
Gundersen puts into perspective the level of radiation being released into the ocean, pointing out that the radiation from the leaking containment tank had very high levels of radiation. Tepco admitted that the level was 7.5 million times higher than the legal limit. CNN host makes lame comparison of amount of radioactive water released to the amount of water in the ocean without reporting the astronomical high concentration.

Using CNN math and reported radiation leaks, the real calculation looks something like this (and I hope I did this right):
As a child, my pool was 18 ft x 4 ft. That is ABOUT 45 meters sq.
One ton of water = one meter sq.
There were 11,500 tons of radioactive water 7,500,000 TIMES the legal limit of iodine 131 released.
11,5000 x 7,500,000 / 45 = 1,916,666,666
According to CNN math, the radioactive water released would fill 1,916,666,666 (one billion nine hundred sixteen million six hundred sixty six thousand six hundred sixty six) swimming pools that are 100% over the legal limit of radioactive iodine 131. Is it OK if I round this up to 2 billion, since no one knows exactly the volume of the Pacific Ocean so maybe you rounded up too?
AGAIN, radioactive water 100% over the legal radiation limit would fill 2,000,000,000 (two billion) swimming pools which hold 45 tons of water.
Wow, what a relief. I thought there was a real problem in the Pacific for a minute (she said, sarcastically).
To put that in perspective, the population of China is about 1,300,000,000 (one billion three hundred million) people.
Every single person in China could swim in their very own toxic swimming pool and there would still be 700,000,000 (seven hundred million) pools left over.

The operator of the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says 7.5 million times the legal limit of radioactive iodine 131 has been detected from samples of seawater near the plant.
The utility firm said samples of water taken near the water intake of the No. 2 reactor at 11:50 AM Saturday contained 300,000 becquerels of iodine 131 per cubic centimeter, or 7.5 million times the legal limit.
