Hustle culture promotes the idea that working harder, and longer hours will practically guarantee success in whatever endeavor you pursue. There are entire courses, seminars and personalities built around this concept. But is hustle culture really all it's cracked up to be? One thing I've learned over the course of working in several fields and offices is that working harder is really not the best way to move up. Even as a small business owner, there are limits to what hard work and long hours can do for you.
If you take nothing else away from this discussion, always remember that you are replaceable in your company and life is too short. You can always get a new job but you can't make up for that missed event your kid was a part of, or the anniversary dinner you promised your spouse. Put life and those you love first because your company will have a new employee before you are even in the ground, but your family can't get another of you.
