Check it Out!

Today we're finishing up the repair on the Husqvarna ST224 Snow blower with the cracked plastic console, causing the machine to not shift and only drive in reverse!

Husqvarna really let me down on this one. Instead of righting a wrong, they just remanufactured the same console (with the same design flaw) and then discontinued the model.

This snow blower broke 2 months after the 3yr warranty expired, and I've been hearing the same thing after doing some research. 1 week, 2 weeks, a month, 2 months out of warranty and the console breaks.

As I said in the video, it's unfortunate, as customers who haven't run into this problem yet, will most likely encounter it in the future.

This is why my 1st video emphasizes the importance of properly (and frequently) lubricating the friction wheel hex shaft!

Here's my original video on this snow blower where I go over what's wrong, and what caused this issue to happen in the 1st place: youtu.be/ScUz479N6p4

Interestingly enough, I had another Husqvarna ST 224 in the shop for a carburetor replacement (those parts are also on backorder) and that console wasn't cracked or broken, as the machine was serviced and the hex shaft had been lubricated.

Ideally though, the best solution to this problem would be to limit tension on the friction wheel return spring. Husqvarna uses a massive torsion spring, which puts additional stress on the cable, and plastic support brackets.

This torsion spring, paired with Husqvarnas lack of lubrication on the hex shaft (they just use a "lifetime lubrication" which appears to be anti-seize) is what causes these units to fail.

If you'd like to watch a step by step video on how to disassemble, remove, install and reassemble this console, here's a link to a video that may help: youtube.com/watch?v=GkOYcqlascU

That video uploaded by @pattayperformance is on a Poulan (this design flaw affects Husqvarna, Poulan, Craftsman and Johnsered) so it just goes to show you how many Brands and Models are affected by this terrible AYP design flaw.
