WM is all about tuning and high-speed street racing in Tokyo.
Reina is one of the main characters in the series. Her initial goal is to beat the infamous Devil Z, a 600hp S30 Datsun 240Z with a twin turbo L28 engine. At first she is unable to even keep up with the Z, so she decides to tune her R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R up to 600hp. Reina then attempts to beat the Z in lengthy high-speed battle, but it ends in disaster! From that point on, her perspective changes. She continues to run with the Devil Z with her rebuilt R32, but not against it. She also realizes she has not only been in pursuit of the Devil Z, but it's owner: Akio. He is the main character of Wangan Midnight. Their friendship continues to grow closer throughout the series, but Akio is too focused on tuning and racing to really notice that she loves him.

After the 98th episode of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6...
When Reina is about to leave Japan to move to the USA due to work opportunities as an actress, she finally tells Akio her feelings. HE ACCEPTS (even to the point of giving her a farewell on the Wangan, to ensure that she could see him and the Z one last time). Akio awaits her return...
