#Hurricane #Milton is heading for #Florida west coast and it could bring deadly #storm surge. “Looking at how big this storm is, there’s going to be significant damage in different parts of Florida,” Governor Ron #DeSantis said at a news conference in #Tallahassee on Tuesday. He says now is the time to make an escape plan and act on it.
Hurricane Milton is building up a potentially disastrous storm surge as it churns toward Florida’s west coast, where flooding and high winds are expected to inflict widespread damage and put lives at risk.
Milton’s top winds reached 145 miles (233 kilometers) per hour, making it a Category 4 hurricane on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale. While its winds have slowed somewhat, the storm’s worst devastation will likely come from the wall of water it pushes onshore as it makes landfall overnight Wednesday into Thursday, the US National Hurricane Center said in an advisory at 7 a.m. local time.
