Finally finished my "Hurdy Gurdy-Tron", a hand cranked MP3 player, so we can still enjoy our music after the end of the world. This was supposed to be a 3 day project but I ended up lavishing about 3 months of love and attention on it! Carpentry is a new craft for me. It has many flaws but I'm quite delighted with it none the less.
The box was made from a 400 year old cedar tree that grew in Melrose Abby but fell down in a storm in 2016. The inlay is American Black Walnut.
The electronics, which are much more my traditional skill set, are an old stepper motor from the scrap bin used as a generator and an mp3 player constructed from a microcontroller and an SD card reader.
The back of the box is decorated with the electronics schematic. The side art references "One's Televisor", an "art amusement machine" based on a mechanical television and the front.. is that a song or a scream?.
