Are European Motorcycle tech schools better than ours?
Many countries in Europe and Canada require a license to repair motorcycles for profit. There is a certification program and it’s ongoing to protect customers from untrained techs “claiming” to be experts.
You know How 2 Wrench is in full support of the DIY space and in no way do we think it’s mandatory to “go to school”. What we find so encouraging is the access to schooling. Most classes are nights and weekends with a 1 or 2-year commitment similar to the “journeymen” programs in the US.
What I love about that model is they are able to hold reasonable jobs during this time and not end up with HUGE debt as we see in America.
From talking to them, there seemed to be an expected sense that it takes time to learn the craft and that time in the seat, turning wrenches is respected. Get them in, get them out is undoubtedly not the model here. Reminded me of community colleges in the states.
