Outside of the Westwood Federal Building, a pro-Monarchist contingent of Iranian-Americans celebrated the news of Supreme Leader Ayatalloh Ali Khamenei’s death, which some believe will usher in a new chapter of Iranian politics.
An estimated 150 to 200 individuals filled the intersection of Veteran Ave. and Wilshire Blvd. early Saturday afternoon, many waving the pre-revolutionary Iranian flag; a green, white and red tricolor featuring a lion and the sun, which was used in the country from 1917 until the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The air of the moment was celebratory, with speakers railing against the former leader and dancers rejoicing in the streets.
