Columbia Daily Spectator | Hundreds of protesters occupy South Lawn, call for divestment from Israel during Shafik testimony @ColumbiaSpecVideo | Uploaded April 2024 | Updated October 2024, 15 hours ago.
Hundreds of pro-Palestinian students pitched tents on Columbia’s South Lawn starting at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The protesters pledged to occupy the space until the University divests from companies with ties to Israel.

The protest began only hours before University President Minouche Shafik and other high-ranking administrators were scheduled to testify before Congress. Students were told by Public Safety that they would be suspended and forcibly removed from South Lawn at 11 a.m. As of 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, no students have been arrested or removed from campus property.
