7:40 pm PDT Broadcast will end shortly - too dark to see!
This is the second clutch of eggs for this bird in 2014 - She's just getting started with them... She comes and goes a lot and since the weather is relatively warm she can spend a lot of time away from the nest. She probably won't start incubating in earnest until after the second egg is laid, which will probably happen some time today or tonight.
When not at the nest, she spends a lot of her time catching small flies in flight, and chasing other hummingbirds away from the feeder nearby She is very territorial and while she will tolerate other hummingbirds in the area, she will fiercely chase them away from the feeder if any come near it, which has earned her the name "TuffGirl". Of course while she's sitting on the nest, the feeder is fair game!
This is a new camera setup and is still undergoing some tweaking. I hope to get a little better resolution, and of course Hi-Def video recordings will be made and uploaded along the way as well. The broadcast system will be shut down at dusk, and will be brought back online as often as possible. Photos and video links will also be posted on FaceBook (JCMegabyte)
