Big Navy News, Naval Station Norfolk (Aug. 9, 2020): Few, if any, occasions, better demonstrate the awesome might of the United States military than a gigantic 100,000 ton nuclear-powered supercarrier pulling into port — USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) returns having successfully completed a regularly scheduled, YET ULTIMATELY RECORD SETTING 206 CONSECUTIVE DAYS AT SEA, deployment in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet.
Captain Kyle P. Higgins, the commanding officer of the Eisenhower, said it best. “These young men and women were thrust into a situation no one could have predicted and they responded as only Navy Sailors can — they adapted and overcame the adversity. I witnessed their excellence day in and day out as they accomplished repairs never before attempted at sea...I am deeply humbled to have the privilege of working alongside them... They are what make our Navy the greatest fighting force the world has ever seen.”
