Many consider the New York Central’s Hudson to be the most beautifully proportioned and handsome steam locomotive ever made. Joshua Lionel Cowan, Lionel’s founder, certainly thought so. He chose the Hudson to model his company’s first scale model. And it was a beautiful model – made of die-cast metal it was exquisitely detailed and sturdy.

This segment has footage of various real Hudsons and Lionel’s scale model.
