📍 William Shatner's name is synonymous with Captain James T. Kirk of the iconic 1960s Star Trek series, as he navigates the galaxy in the starship Enterprise.
Born into a Jewish family, Shatner was raised religiously and, although he never learned Yiddish, his faith has played an important role throughout his life. After university, he acted in classical drama and Shakespeare plays before landing on the Star Trek series. Shatner admitted that it was not a conscious decision, but rather a drift with events that led him from the theatre to Star Trek. The series was surprisingly short-lived, being cancelled after three seasons, and it wasn't until several years later that the Star Trek fever that has since grown into a cult following was rekindled.
