Because of the nature of these pins, I have personally heat treated and fit each Blanket Pin Striker. As such no two are perfectly identical and come with an oil finish. When hardening I only quench the striking edge at first. This leaves the rest of the buckle soft. Then I let some of the residual heat seep back into the hardened portion of the buckle creating a gradual tempered transition. And finally I dunk the whole thing to arrest the tempering process.
