The iconic Australian bushranger has gone digital.
Inside a small studio at State Library Victoria, a team of conservators and digital artists set out to capture objects related to Ned Kelly, including his iconic armour, in extraordinary detail.
Using advanced photogrammetry (a process that stitches together hundreds of ultra-high-resolution photos) they created precise 3D “digital twins” of each piece. Every curve, scratch and mark was documented, revealing details invisible to the naked eye.
The project combined cutting-edge imaging, conservation expertise and VFX artistry to transform these 19th-century relics into stunning digital models.
These scans now power the award-winning web experience MOUTHFUL OF DUST, an unprecedented way to explore some of Australia’s most famous cultural artefacts up close, from anywhere in the world.
