โถ๏ธIntroduction
Rotary vane pumps are a type of positive displacement pump. They are often used for hydraulic systems, aeration and for creating vacuums.
Components
The type of pump shown in this video is a fixed delivery rotary vane pump. The pump consists of a cam ring, vanes, rotor, filters and an electric motor.
How Rotary Vane Pumps Work
The working concept describing the vane pump and how it works is relatively simple. The rotor rotates within the fixed cam ring. The suction side of the pump allows liquid to enter the space between the vanes, the vanes then push the liquid towards the discharge port. The change in volume from large (suction) to small (discharge), is what allows the pump to create fluid flow.
Advantages
Rotary vane pumps are much quieter than other types of positive displacement pump, they are also suitable for a variety of pressures and temperatures. It can also handle low viscosity fluids very well.
Disadvantages
The vanes must seat correctly against the cam ring, otherwise the pump will not operate correctly; thus the pump is not suitable for pumping abrasive fluids. The pump design is quite complex.
