On August 9, Typhoon Dolphin, China’s most powerful typhoon of the year, struck the country’s east coast before driving deep inland and northwards. Major cities including Shanghai and Beijing were battered with relentless downpours that flooded streets and forced millions of people to evacuate. Wang Fan, research assistant professor from the Hong Kong Baptist University, explains how Dolphin maintained its strength as it brought record-breaking rainfall across China.
