The Air Force is making huge changes to the way it trains its Airmen for the fight, incorporating much more realistic experiences from the onset of Basic Military Training, culminating with high-stress exercises on simulated airfields that will see every new Air Force trainee get their hands dirty on simulated airfields, arming F-16s with missiles and rockets, refueling C-130s to get them back in the sky, and training to defend isolated airstrips from drones and other attacks.
This new initiative, dubbed BMT 3.0, is just the latest part of the broader BMT Next initiative. Let's talk about what that means.
