In early February 1991, two Eagle pilots were on a CAP station in Eastern Iraq. AWACS soon reported contact heading towards them at low altitude. Capt. Thomas 'Vegas' Dietz and Lt. Robert ‘Gigs’ Hehemann were presented with an opportunity to become the most successful pilots of Operation Desert Storm and later, the most successful American fighter pilots of the post-Vietnam era.
