If you've wondered about those cinnamon twist shaped hanks while at your local yarn shop, these have to be wound in a ball or cake before you can crochet or knit with them (otherwise it is a big tangled mess - ask me how I know 👀)
🧶💛 Berroco Modern Cotton DK in the Del and Rosecliff colorways, which you can find in Yarn Crafts & Coffee in Melbourne, Florida and at Crochet Aweigh in Eustis, Florida.
💚 Start by removing the label and set it aside for later. Be careful with Araucania brand - this one loops the yarn around the label. Do not cut the strand, or it will cut the active yarn.
💚 Untwist the hank. It will open up into a large circle with a couple of spots tied down to hold it in place.
💚 Once I have the yarn in my hands, I like to open up the yarn a little bit by just stretching it. Sometimes, I will rotate it and do the same thing. This just helps loosen things up for winding and lay flatter, so fewer tangles in the end.
💚 I place it onto the center of my swift first, hold it in place on one side, then open the swift. Sometimes, the tension of holding it makes opening the swift difficult, so if that happens, just loosen up on your hold.
✨️ If you don't have a swift, you can also use an accordion hanger.
💚 Cut or untie the 3 spots that are holding the strands. 2 will be a simple strand woven into the strands and tied - cut these. 1 will be attached to the beginning and end yarn tails - I usually cut this one too, but you can also untie it.
💚 Pull on the tail ends to see which one is on top and easily to pull from. Use your yarn winder to cake or hand wind into a ball, and enjoy!
