Carrying thralls with you and placing them down before a battle starts can be a surprisingly effective tactic. Thralls won't follow you as you walk around (at least not yet), but you can place them down near enemies and then provoke a fight.
There are some obvious limitations to this strategy. Thralls take some investment to get-- especially high level thralls. They can die if you run into a difficult situation. You can't place them in building blocked areas (which can be a serious limitation on more crowded multiplayer servers). They are heavy, though mid level players can fairly easily carry one and high level players should be able to carry two.
Despite all of these draw backs, this can be a very useful strategy. If you find yourself in a difficult fight, it will be well worth it to have a high level fighter or archer thrall by your side.
