FireWalk | How To Use Sonarworks Reference 4 / SoundID Reference @FireWalkMusic | Uploaded October 2020 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
In this tutorial & review I will show you how to set up and how to use sonarworks reference 4 (The newer sonarworks SoundID reference is similar). I'll cover both the sonarworks reference 4 headphones edition and the full sonarworks reference 4 studio edition (with monitors). Sonarworks 4 is a tool that can make mixing easier by removing unwanted sound coloration.
Unwanted sound coloration is a huge problem when mixing, both when it comes to monitors and headphones. That's where Sonarworks reference 4 comes in. It will help calibrate your gear so that you get a flat frequency response, regardless of your equipment or your room.
In order to get a balanced mix, you need a flat frequency response. Unfortunately, many of the more popular headphones and monitors that people use for mixing and mastering are far from flat. Unwanted room coloration is also an issue with monitors because sound waves tend to bounce off your walls and other reflective surfaces.
In any case, the result is the same: What you hear isn't always a true representation of what your mix actually sounds like.
Sonarworks reference 4 is an advanced piece of software that works for both monitors and headphones.
It will calibrate the output based on the exact gear you're using. If you use it for monitors, it will take precise measurements of your room, and apply the necessary corrections so that any coloration issues are significantly reduced.
