Welcome back to Western Interlock!

Today we're diving into how to build a pedestrian-sized walkway that can also handle light vehicular traffic. Perfect for UTVs, mowers, bikes, and more! In this video, we'll discuss the necessity and benefits of constructing a dual-purpose walkway, along with the essential components and reasoning behind our design choices. We'll also go over selecting the right materials and establishing the correct slope.

For this project, we'll be using ¼-10 open-graded base, a bi-axial grid, 80mm pavers, and perma edge. The tools needed include white marking paint, excavation tools, screed tools, and a trowel and compactor.

We'll begin by using white marking paint, grading the area, and sharing tips on excavation. Next, we'll demonstrate laying the bedding and bi-axial grid for optimal edge restraint. Our choice of 80mm pavers ensures longevity and performance, and we'll cover screeding techniques for both standard slopes and crowned paths. Additionally, we'll show you how to mix, trowel, and compact the perma edge on top of the grid. Finally, we'll sweep in the joint sand, compact it, and add the finishing touches, including landscaping.

Whether you're planning a walkway for foot traffic or light vehicles, we've got you covered. If you find this video helpful, be sure to check out our other instructional videos and blogs at westerninterlock.com. Subscribe to our channel Western Interlock for more hardscaping tips and tutorials!
