In this demo, you learn how to create and customize gauge visualizations in Oracle Analytics Cloud to track a single metric against a target or within a defined range. The walkthrough starts in a workbook built on an order lines dataset, where you pick the Gauge visualization to display current sales in a semicircular dial.
Next, you add a target value by placing a target sales measure into the gauge targets so you can compare actual sales to the target. You then customize range labels in properties, choose which labels to display, and format range labels and values as currency for clearer KPI communication.
You also learn how to set start and end ranges for the gauge. When start and end measures are not available in the dataset, you configure them in properties, keeping start on auto and setting a custom end value to reflect expected performance. To fit different canvas layouts, you switch gauge types, including semicircular, circular, horizontal bar, and vertical bar.
Finally, the demo shows how to create a target when no target measure exists in the dataset by building a calculation and using a mathematical function so it is recognized as a measure. You add the new calculation as the gauge target and validate that the updated target is reflected in the visualization. With these steps, you can build consistent gauge KPIs across a dashboard to quickly show what is on track and what needs attention.
