How should we understand Turkey-Russia relations? After the failed 2016 coup against Erdogan, Putin seized the chance to thaw ties. Consequently, Erdogan’s first foreign visit following the bid to topple him was to Russia, marking a new pragmatic partnership. Since then, Ankara cooperates up to a point with the Kremlin, but also undermines it when opportunity arises, including vis-à-vis Ukraine.
