The GT86, BRZ and FR-S were one of the most anticipated car releases of the 2010's. Toyota and Subaru finally gave enthusiasts what they had been longing for, a simple sports car for any budget. Initial reviewers loved the GT86's handling and simplicity.
But early buyers were quick to point out the GT86's biggest flaw, they just weren't all that fast. It didn't take long though for the aftermarket to find a solution, catless headers in a tune. In a previous video, we installed the Tomei catless UEL (unequal length) headers on our FR-S and today we're tuning it with the OpenFlash Tablet.
On the GT86 platform, OpenFlash is one of the more popular tuning solutions for this car. When you purchase the tablet, it includes downloads for a handful of tunes that are specific to the GT86, BRZ, and FR-S depending on how they are modified. We went with the stage 2+ tune since we have catless headers and are running 93 octane. While somewhat expensive, it completely changes the driving experience in out FR-S, especially at low RPM.
