See how to create an extension cable to pull the logic board outside the Mac's chassis. I close with a special announcement! And yes, the stock SE & SE/30 power cable really is comprised of rather thin 22AWG stranded wire!
🔎 INDEX
0:00 ATX Cable Usage
11:34 Special Announcement
🛠️ THINGS TO BUY...
SILVERSTONE 24-pin Male-to-Female ATX Cable:
• Black Version Amazon USA: amzn.to/3G1TKkE
• White Version Amazon USA: amzn.to/2Z3q6KT
• Black Version Amazon Japan: tinyurl.com/8rdjzrb9
• White Version Amazon Japan: tinyurl.com/3xzhyzua
• Silverstone Website: silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=371&area=en
(Even their official specifications say it is 16AWG wire.)
NOTE #1: Some ATX cable listings say the length is 30cm and others 35cm. This is very confusing, but the truth is the wires on the SilverStone ATX cables are 30cm, and if you add the connectors at either end, it's 35cm tip-to-tip. That's a nice length. You can go longer if you want the motherboard even further from your chassis, but the longer the wires, the more resistance and the greater potential for electrical noise. Even so, I doubt it will be an issue if you decide go with 45 or 50cm lengths (for the extension cable) with 18AWG wire, which is in addition to the length of your stock power cable.
NOTE #2: Despite being advertised as a 16AWG cable, as you saw in my video, the SilverStone ATX cable is in fact printed with 18AWG, and the diameter of the wire seems to show that 18AWG is correct. SilverStone covered it with a braid and hoped no one would notice! Very naughty!
WIRE KIT (to extend Speaker wires)
• Wire Kit (Amazon USA): amzn.to/2ZaWOKi
• Wire Kit (Amazon Japan): tinyurl.com/fstb23dx
DEOXIT D5 Contact Cleaner (great for old, oxidized connectors)
• Amazon USA: amzn.to/3f92aeN
• Amazon Japan: tinyurl.com/7hckwrv5
NOTE: I highly recommend this cleaner even when not extending your main power cable. If you see any kind of greenish color on your contacts, you probably will have high resistance connections and lower output voltages as a result. DeOxit D5 cleans all that gunk off your connectors quickly and easily, albeit expensively!
💵 NOTE: Your price on Amazon (US only) is the same even if you don't click the "amzn.to" Affiliate links above, but if you do kindly click and purchase within 24 hours, Amazon may pay me a small commission on all qualifying items in your Cart (even items not linked above).

![Late 2009 iMac 27 Video Card Repair [4850 Bake]
This is my 1st bake video which shows motherboard removal. Watch my 2nd Bake Video to do the bake WITHOUT removing the motherboard (and read the text description under that video too): https://youtu.be/6BJGLFCigdA
💁🏼♂️ Have success? Please log your Completion on my iFixit Guide page at the following link by scrolling down to the Conclusion box and clicking on the Give the author +30 points! button. Youll need an iFixit account but its free & easy. https://bit.ly/2nCnNan
🤔 Think the bake is crazy? Note the NeXT motherboard was also baked (31m56s):
https://youtu.be/92NNyd3m79I?t=1916
🛠 TOOLS to open & close the iMac:
• 2 strong suction cups for front glass removal: https://amzn.to/2tkcmvJ
• Torx T10 for LCD removal (T9 works but T10 is best) & T9 for video card removal. The following kit contains more than needed for the iMac, but its highly rated, has grippy handles and magnetic tips, and no 1 month+ wait from China: https://amzn.to/2UCaurK
-or-
Alternative kit, WRENCH style (cheaper): https://amzn.to/2wIgWWe
-or-
Alternative kit, BIT style (youll need a handle): https://amzn.to/2vRkUeC
🔦 OTHER ITEMS needed or recommended:
• Thermal Pastes (2 types REQUIRED!)
K4 & K5 Pro Kit: https://amzn.to/38WkEZO
-or-
K5 Pro (for chips other than GPU): https://amzn.to/33OIDJ6
& Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut (for GPU only): https://amzn.to/36NMQwu
• Philips #1 + screw driver (for RAM door): https://amzn.to/38VWOgK
• Anti-static wrist strap (connect wire to earth ground): https://amzn.to/2uSTy74
• Dust blower - Giottos Rocket Blaster Large: https://amzn.to/2OgHHXt
• ISO Alcohol Spray 99.9% (to remove old thermal paste): https://amzn.to/3hD0fOJ
• Swabs & Tissues (for cleaning off the old thermal paste)
• Microfiber cloth (for cleaning the screen/glass)
• Flashlight (to peer into the dark spaces inside the iMac)
• Aluminum Foil (make feet to raise up video card in oven)
• OVEN set to 200°C/400°F (without which, this repair is in vain)
• Time & Patience
► I used a Samsung EVO 850 1TB SSD to replace the stock Apple hard drive, but the 860 EVO or Crucial MX500 are equivalent. To use an SSD in late 2009 27 iMac, youll also need a special mounting bracket and a separate temperature sensor:
• Bracket: https://amzn.to/37Zn4qg
• Sensor: https://amzn.to/3b3knWU
• EVO 860 (1TB): https://amzn.to/2RKem9M
-or-
• Crucial MX500 (2TB): https://amzn.to/3bxHybf
💵 AMAZON pricing is exactly the same even if you dont use my links, but if you do kindly purchase within 24 hours of clicking my links, I receive a tiny commission (TINY!) which helps to support this Channel. NOTE! If you add above items to your Cart but wait more than 24 hours to purchase, I receive no commission.
📷 4850 Card Photos (cleaned):
TOP: https://flic.kr/p/RjLLCd
BTM: https://flic.kr/p/RjLKGf
♨️ I baked the Radeon 4850 video card at 200°C/392°F for 9 minutes. I chose 9 minutes because after reading much about this subject, some people said 8 minutes and others 10, so I chose the average.
‼️ If you use Arctic Silver 5 like I did, dont use too much because when the heatsink presses down on it, excess paste may spill onto the tiny capacitors surrounding the GPU and the capacitive nature of that paste can cause problems. Arctic MX-4 which is not electrically conductive, so you can use that instead on the GPU. But I still recommend getting the K4 Pro and K5 Pro dual paste kit because you need a thermal pad replacement for the memory chips on the video card.
😎 Fan Control Apps to keep your iMac running cooler. I’m using both on different Macs and can therefore recommend either of these:
• Macs Fan Control: https://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control
• smcFanControl: https://www.eidac.de
💁♂️ Most people in the Comments section who tried the bake find success. Few have serious problems. Those with problems ask and I try to help.
Several people have said you dont need to remove the motherboard. My answer to that is, yes you do if you want to change the BR2032 battery on the back side of the motherboard. Even if you dont think you want to change the battery, at least remove the old one. Even lithium button cell batteries leak after many years of being installed in electronics. And for those of you who dont care about any of that, simply watch my 2nd bake video to see how to go about the bake WITHOUT removing the motherboard.
►►► July 11, 2017: My 1st bake lasted only 4 months. What inspired me to do the 1st bake was another YouTuber who did the same repair and who said recently his iMac had been running fine for 17 months since the repair as of Feb. 2017. The GOOD NEWS is my 2nd bake lasted 2.5 years! Info on my 3rd bake is here: https://youtu.be/teV_atLUlpM

⚡ Charging Cable is USB-A. There is no USB-C adapter in the box.
🎬 My MATIAS KEYBOARD Review (July 2017):
https://youtu.be/pB8VGfqIKvU
👉 Nov.2, 2019 UPDATE: After a week of use, I can say two things. (1) The keys are a very smooth matte finish, so finger oil shows up rather clearly, and that may be an issue for some. Had the keys been a more textured plastic surface, this would be a none-issue, I think. (2) I still used the old wired Apple Extended keyboard (white keys, aluminum body) at the office, and the key travel is at least twice that of the Space Gray Magic Keyboard. I like the older keyboard better because I like more key travel. In the end though, the Space Gray Magic Keyboard is still vastly better than the Matias.

🤦🙏🙇♂️ I wish to express my most sincere and humble thanks to Torbar at the 68kMLA Forums very kindly pointed out a problem in my video shortly after made it Public. He moved with lightning speed to private message me about the problem spot, allowing me a chance to set my video to Private while I addressed the problem. He also very kindly suggested the YouTube Editor for that portion of the video, which I used for the first time today to resolve it. The YT Editor works but the video must be rendered a second time, which takes almost 24 hours. I suppose its faster than editing in FCPX, writing out a copy, uploading and then waiting for YT to render, but the YT Editor isnt very precise. It does work in a pinch though and allows you to retain Likes and Views which would otherwise be lost by uploading a new, edited video. Anyway, thank you, Torbar, for your gracious help!!
