In this video, we show you how to tie the Klemheist Knot. It’s most commonly used to climb up or descend (rappel) a rope. It’s usually used by climbers, mountaineers, and arborists. The Klemheist Knot is a slide-and-grip knot. It creates a lot of friction when loaded and slides easily when not. Its main advantage over the more commonly used Prusik Knot is that it slides more easily. It’s also sometimes called the Machard Knot, the French Machard Knot, or the Klemheist Friction Hitch.
