Last video we showed you the problem — carbon wrapped over the threaded insert, blocking the bottom bracket from starting. Now let's actually fix it.

Here's the situation again, fast: newer carbon frames encapsulate the threaded insert in carbon to fight galvanic corrosion. Good intention. But that carbon lip sits about 2 to 2.5 millimeters higher than the actual threads — and carbon isn't threaded. It physically blocks you.

So we thread it.

A few things that matter if you're doing this:

Carbon cuts easy. You are not chasing the frame here — the threads underneath are clean CNC threads and they're fine. You're only cutting that little carbon lip at the very entrance. If you suddenly hit real resistance, stop. That's not carbon anymore.

Come in square. This is the part that bites people. The first 2 millimeters is where you cross-thread a frame and ruin your day. We use the already-installed side as a stabilizing guide so the tool enters dead straight. Use a guide. Don't freehand it.

Use thread cutting fluid. A little lubricant on the tool. Back it off a turn first to let everything settle, then ease in with feel — the tool has some play, and feel is how you keep it honest.

The real test: thread our polymer stabilizer ring onto the drive side by hand. If it starts easily and goes in clean — done. If it won't, the frame itself needs chasing, and that's a different job. We've got a separate video on facing carbon frames on the BBInfinite channel.

No fuss when you know what you're looking at.
