As we dive deeper into National Sewing Month and the third annual Precious Fabric Challenge, I am sharing a major milestone in my project journey—my wearable test muslin for the True Bias Tobie Jacket.
Before I dare to cut into my precious, 11-year-old Dolce & Gabbana wool double gauze, a test run is absolutely essential to evaluate the proportions, length, and construction of this slightly oversized silhouette. For this wearable muslin, I used a gorgeous, fine-wale navy stretch cotton corduroy paired with a stunning spring floral twill satin lining—both sourced from the wonderful University of Sewing!
In today's video, I'm walking you through exactly how the fit is looking straight out of the envelope, the adjustments I’ve already made (including shortening the body for my 5'2" frame and short torso), and the final tweaks I intend to make before cutting into my ultimate fashion fabric. Testing your patterns with a companion fabric is the best way to build ultimate cutting table confidence!
