In this Minecraft video we're going to go over a trick that allows you to tame and ride a ghast. While you may try to put a saddle on it, there's actually only way to do it that you probably didn't know about. Let's see!

You might be tempted to craft a saddle, grab some potatoes, because that's definitely what the food of choice for the ghasts is, and head out to the nether, but I'm not sure that works for everybody.

There is no way to tame a ghast in survival mode and even if you get close to it and even if you are in creative mode you still cannot even put a saddle on it. But hope is not lost because you can always use Minecraft commands. So how are we going to ride a ghast in Minecraft? Well, we need a pig for that. The diagram for this is simple: we will take a ghast, put a pig on top of it and put a saddle on the pig. Now, unfortunately, there is no glue in Minecraft so, again, you will need access to commands. So, just copy and paste this command and your dream will come true.

/summon minecraft:ghast ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:"minecraft:pig",Saddle:1b}]}

This is the command that you will probably find on the internet if you look long enough for it or figure it out yourself, but there are a couple of things that I think can be improved in it and I will share them a little bit further in this video.

A thing to keep in mind is ghasts are hostile and they will try to attack you no matter what. Fortunately for us, the ghast will miss most of the time because we are sitting right on top of its head, well, on a pig on top of its head, I mean inside its head. And that is exactly one of the problems with the simple command, let's fix that.

First, let's take the command apart to figure out how it works:
We're spawning in a ghast at the location of our player with some extra NBT data in these brackets right here. We have a passengers tag and inside you have, of course, your passengers, which are going to be tied to the mob. Every passenger is going to be in curvy brackets. These curvy brackets are for the pig and everything written in them is going to apply to the pig. So we have the id, which picks the mob that is going to ride our original mob and a saddle tag, which puts on a saddle on the pig. The saddle tag is not going to work on mobs that you can't put a saddle on, in case you are wondering. And we can add new tags separated by commas.

So, here are my improvements to the command:

1. The pig is probably scared of heights, so spare it of the torture and spawn it in without AI. Do this with the NoAI tag. The pig is not going to move because it doesn't have AI anymore.

/summon minecraft:ghast ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:"minecraft:pig",Saddle:1b,NoAI:1}]}

2. The pig is still making sounds, and that might get annoying to listen to, so add a silent tag.

/summon minecraft:ghast ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:"minecraft:pig",Saddle:1b,NoAI:1,Silent:1}]}

You can also apply it to the ghast by writing a comma and the tag before the closing curvy bracket at the end of the command.

/summon minecraft:ghast ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:"minecraft:pig",Saddle:1b,NoAI:1,Silent:1}],Silent:1}

3. You can see the pig and that might ruin your experience and your friends might call you a cheater. So, to really impress them, give the pig invisibility. It's not simple because you can't just make mobs invisible in Minecraft for whatever reason, unless you give it a potion effect. Here is the command for that.

/summon minecraft:ghast ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:"minecraft:pig",Saddle:1b,NoAI:1,Silent:1,ActiveEffects:[{Id:14,Amplifier:0,Duration:90909093,ShowParticles:0b}]}],Silent:1}

And you are done, to other players you look like you are riding a ghast. And for you, the dream that you've been dreaming of is finally achievable - just open Minecraft, paste in the command and you too can fly on a ghast.
