For many women, talking to a doctor about sexual health can feel uncomfortable, intimidating, or overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be.
Dr. Kelly Casperson shares a five-step framework for advocating for your pleasure, comfort, and well-being in medical settings:
🎯 Get clear on your goal.
Write down what you want help with so you can lead the visit with a focused ask.
📝 Track your symptoms.
Note what you’re experiencing, when it happens, and what makes it better or worse — specifics matter.
🧠 Skip vague language.
Use anatomically correct terms and describe exactly what you’re feeling to get taken seriously and diagnosed faster.
❓ Ask direct questions.
Come prepared with clear questions so you leave with real options and a treatment plan.
🛟 Advocate and redirect if needed.
If your concern is dismissed, ask for a referral and don’t leave without next steps.
