A very popular beach in Florida is New Smyrna Beach. It is located just south of Daytona Beach, Florida which boast 17 miles of beautiful coastline. Unfortunately for surfers, New Smyrna is also known as the “shark capita"l of the world.
However, in 2020 it was stated that Austrlaia was the country with the most fatalities.
Eight of those fatal bites were in Australia, three in the US.
So how do we avoid being attacked by a shark? Don't swim or surf at dawn or dusk when the risk of an attack is greater. If you encounter a shark at close range striking it repeatedly on it's snout. This will offen startle the shark and cause it to swim away.
If you have already beem bitten on find your waste or thigh in the Jaws of a Great White shark, you may not be in a position to reach around to strike it in the snout. You need to look for it's eye and poke your finger in it as hard and deep as possible. This is a very sensitive point on the shark and it may release you from it's grip.
Depending on the severity of the wound, and how far you are offshore will determine whether you will be able to swim to the shore. Hopefully you are with someone who can assist you.
