This beginner friendly leveling guide explains in detail which support gems to use for Arc and Orb of Storms during the leveling process in each act. I also go through which items to pick up, look out for, how to Harvest craft items for getting through the story and into the endgame.

Act 1 Gem Links:
Spark and later Arc
Arcane Surge
Added Lightning Damage
Also pick up: Clarity, Flame Dash and Orb of Storms
Act 1 Crafting:
Use Caster Modifier (Purple) crafts from Harvest to make a Spell Damage staff before Brutus
Once blue seeds are available, try making a +2 to All Lightning Spell gems staff with Lightning crafts
Act 2 Gem Links:
Arc
Elemental Focus
Added Lightning Damage
Orb of Storms - same support gems
Act 2 to 3: Look for a 4 linked item with all blue sockets
also pick up and link together:
Arcane Cloak
Arcane Surge
Act 3 Gem Links:
Arc / Orb of Storms
Elemental Focus
Archmage
Lightning Penetration
Act 4 Gem Links:
Arc
Elemental Focus
Archmage
Unleash OR Spell Echo
Lightning Penetration (if you have a 5-linked item)
Act 4 Craft: make a new staff with high Spell Damage and/or Lightning Damage and some cast speed to replace the old one. Mana is also good here.
Orb of Storms, Clarity and Arcane Cloak stay the same
Flame Dash can be linked to Second Wind (lower priority)
From Act 5 and onwards look for:
5-link crafts (Blue seeds) to use on six socket Staves (not Warstaves) and chest pieces with blue sockets.
Keep Elemental Resistances at 75%
Mana and Life rolls on most gear pieces (use Life crafts from Yellow seeds) for example
Have movement speed on boots, preferably over 20%
