On newer installations of Adobe Illustrator you may notice that you only have a single row of basic tools indexed in your toolbar. You may also notice that your system tools and tool settings menu is missing as well. All you have to do to remedy this problem is navigate to Windows, Toolbar, and change the display from "Basic" to "Advanced". Once enabled, all of your tools will be accessible in your toolbar.
Now if you prefer the streamlined look of the Basic toolbar you can still access all of your tools, you'll just have to use this little sub menu down here represented by three little dots. Clicking on that will expand a sub menu that provides access to all of your tools.
As for the system tools and the tool settings menu, all you have to do to enable that is navigate to Window, select Control, and the menus should populate near the top of your screen.
