To shade alternate rows in Excel Mac OS X:
- Open up your Excel document and highlight all your data
- Go to Format toolbar, select Conditional Formatting and it will open up a text box
- Click on Cell Value Is and select Formula Is
- Type in the formula =row()=even(row()) and click format
- This formula is telling Excel that it wants the row number to equal and even row numbers
- Click Patterns, select gray for the cell shading color (you can change the font, border, patterns)
- Click OK and you will see that all the even number rows have are now color gray
- You can also change it to odd numbers
