Transform your sewing with this incredibly versatile technique that creates beautifully clean, professional-looking facing edges with minimal bulk. This method works like magic on so many different patterns and will elevate your garment construction game! ✨
This technique works best with relatively stable, light to midweight woven fabrics paired with interfacing that matches the weight and drape of your fabric. While we don't recommend it for super drapey fabrics, feel free to experiment and see what works for your projects!
This technique essentially creates "a facing for your facing" and replaces the traditional understitch step. The result? A gorgeous, rolled edge that looks incredibly professional and stays perfectly in place.
Nisan learned this technique from a sewing friend years ago, and it's become her go-to method for every garment where it's even slightly possible to use it. The clean, professional finish it creates on the inside of garments is absolutely addictive!
What You'll Need:
- Facing pattern pieces
- Fabric and interfacing
- Pinking shears (optional but recommended)
- Pressing cloth (silk organza or lightweight cotton)
- Iron and sewing machine
