Since 2002, the US has had the highest incarceration rate in the world. One major issue with the high incarceration rate has been finding reliable ways to help former inmates establish meaningful lives on the outside.

That’s one of the main goals of Antong Lucky, a formerly incarcerated man who now works as an author, nonprofit leader, and activist. In his new book, "A Redemptive Path Forward", Lucky discusses the power of Redemptive Activism, which he describes as “acknowledging that you are worthy of being a part of the solution.”

Once an honor roll student, Lucky’s intellect wasn’t enough to keep him away from the gang culture that was deeply embedded around his Dallas housing project. He eventually wound up in prison. While incarcerated, he would share his food with others, regardless of race or gang affiliation. After conversing with a member of the Aryan Nation, Lucky realized that people — even sworn enemies — tend to be more similar than different.

Today, Lucky teams up with local OG’s and community partners who envision a future for Dallas where everyone feels safe, valued, and accepted — because he believes “anyone can be redeemed.”
