You can check your Tesla battery health using the in-car Battery Health Test or through the Tesla mobile app, with the official test providing the most accurate State of Health (SoH) percentage of your high-voltage battery.
Methods to Test Tesla Battery Health
1. In-Car Battery Health Test (Service Mode / Controls)
This is Tesla’s most precise method, designed to measure your battery’s usable energy capacity relative to its original factory specification. The test typically takes 30 minutes to 24 hours, depending on the battery size, charge level, and charging speed
Prerequisites:
Vehicle parked and in Park mode.
Battery level at 20% or lower (to allow accurate testing).
Vehicle connected to AC charger (≥5 kW), not a Supercharger
No active battery or thermal alerts on the touchscreen.
No pending software updates.
Ensure the vehicle has an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular).
Steps to Run:
Navigate on your Tesla touchscreen: Controls → Service → Battery Health
Review the popup and tap Start Test.
The vehicle will discharge the battery near 0%, then recharge it. During the test, features like climate control and Sentry Mode are disabled, and you may hear fan noise—this is normal
Leave the vehicle plugged in until the test completes. Avoid interacting with the car or unplugging it during the test.
Once complete, the screen shows the battery’s SoH as a percentage, with the vehicle’s range estimate recalibrated. Results are typically updated in the Tesla app as well
